Facing a battle with cancer is a very scary experience, but it can be made easier when you’re surrounded by supportive loved ones.

While the tough road ahead can be daunting, sometimes, something so amazing happens that it can lift your spirits for hours, days, or even months. It gives you some much-needed courage. That’s exactly what happened to one mom as she and her family sat awaiting instruction about her chemotherapy.

Mary Glasure was at her chemotherapy teaching appointment where she’d be learning about the process and what she was about to experience. As she sat there, what appeared to be a male nurse came up to her and said something that left her baffled: “I have a lunch appointment to get to. Let’s hurry up.”

After asking for clarification – where’s this guy’s bedside manner – Mary laughed nervously.

It was at that moment that the “nurse” pulled down his mask, revealing his true identity.

The woman almost immediately burst into tears.

It turned out that the medical professional was actually her son, Marine Cpl. Corey Hoffmaster. Mary hadn’t seen her boy for almost two years!

It was definitely the best possible surprise for his mom. Despite the tough road ahead, this wonderful moment was no doubt a much-needed source of comfort and joy.

Possibly the best part of the video, though, was when Mary asked Corey why he came home. His response was simple and poignant: “Because I had to.”

If there was ever a time when a mother needed her children the most, it is during one like this. What a wonderful family.
