It’s incredible the sacrifices parents will make to ensure their children have better lives. This is something that Michelle Vanegas has seen not only from her dad, Jose, but his own parents. Born in Mexico, his family struggled. That’s why, early in life, the difficult decision was made for him and his grandparents to immigrate to the United States. Sadly, this meant that the rest of the family, including his mom, had to stay behind.

But Jose’s family had a plan. Once in the United States, Jose worked hard to earn enough money for his mom to move as well. He did his best, but his mom sadly passed away before he could make it happen. The only photo he has to remember her by is a photocopy of the original, and it’s super grainy. But then Michelle has the brilliant idea to restore the photo for Dad’s birthday.
@_michellethesciencegal Giving my dad the gift if his mother for his birthday. The only photo he had of her was a paper photocopy that was blurry and grainy and in black-and-white. A miracle worker in the photoshop request subreddit was able to touch up and colorize the photo. The work is phenomenal and I’m so grateful to have been able to give this to my dad.

Michelle reached out for help in a Reddit group called PhotoshopRequests. Here, a selfless person worked hard to restore the image in color — and it couldn’t have turned out more beautifully! Michelle got it framed then wrapped it up as a present for her dad’s birthday.
Man Cries Tears of Joy Over Restored Photo of His Late Mom
To say he was moved would be an understatement. As soon as Jose lays eyes on his sweet mom, he is in tears. It’s clear he needed this restored photo just as much as Michelle thought he did.
“After so many years of only being able to see her in a grainy black-and-white photo, that color brought her back to life,” Michelle writes in the comment section.
“Part of my job is digital photo restoration,” one person shares, “and this right here is why it is my favorite part of my job.”
