The summer of 2026 was not the easiest for Lionel Richie. The 77-year-old singer fell ill following the opening night of his tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, which prompted a trip to a Minneapolis-area hospital.
”What I learned about my years of being in the busy, when you are feeling dizzy, sit your a– down. When you are feeling strange about yourself, sit your a– down. Now, I want you to know that’s the first time in the history of ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ I’ve done it sitting down. That’s a bad sign, that’s a bad sign, y’all,” he shared during a subsequent performance.
Then in late August, he spent multiple days in the intensive care unit in St. Louis following a performance at The Muny outdoor theatre. Lionel Richie has laid low since returning to LA after his time in The Lou, but finally stepped out on September 19 for a bite to eat. TMZ shared photos of Lionel looking well and cheerful.
Lionel Richie Gave Fans Two Thumbs Up
Lionel Richie hasn’t spoken publicly since his hospitalization in St. Louis, but he appears to be saying he’s all good in the new shots posted by TMZ. Fans felt relief finally getting a glimpse of Lionel out and about.
“Glad to see you okay,” a fan shared. “Take it easy.”
This person agreed, writing, “YesSIR!!! Good seeing you OG!!!! Rest up! You have NOTHING TO PROVE!”
“This is great news. He was amazing along with Earth, Wind and Fire tour,” another fan cheered. “ His voice has not changed. Iconic singer and songwriter with one of the best voices ever!”
