Kelly Ripa Reveals the ‘Good Bad’ Habit That Left Her Unable to Talk for 10 Days

Kelly Ripa Teeth

One of Kelly Ripa’s most striking features is her beautiful smile. The actress and television host meticulously cares for her teeth and gums to keep them in pristine condition. But as Kelly learned, there is such a thing as too much dental care. While most dentists recommend a combination of brushing and flossing twice daily to keep teeth and gums healthy, Kelly Ripa admitted recently that she paid a bit too much attention to her gums, causing an issue. She revealed during an episode of her podcast Let’s Talk Off Camera that she would be missing several tapings of Live with Kelly and Mark for an upcoming surgery.

Kelly Ripa Needed Gum Surgery to Protect Her Teeth

Kelly Ripa explained that she brushed her teeth so often that it caused some periodontal issues, namely gum recession. She needed a gum graft. That means Kelly can’t “talk for ten days.”

Kelly Ripa explained the doctor will take skin from the roof of her mouth and graft it to her gums to help repair the tissue that receded from overbrushing.

“I brush my teeth too much. It’s a good-bad habit,” Kelly said. “But I’ve caused gum recession down here specifically, and so they have gotta re-gum my gums.”

Kelly Ripa’s biggest concern about the surgery had little to do with her teeth and gums and more to do with her gift of gab. She said that her husband, Mark Consuelos, would be enforcing the rules, big time.

“We’re already managing my stress level for not being able to talk for ten days,” Kelly joked.

Kelly taped the episode of her podcast pre-surgery. Mark shared that Kelly was doing well and couldn’t wait to get back to work.
