11-Yr-Old With Autism Sings “Hallelujah” With Pentatonix.

11-Yr-Old Kaylee Johnson has gained legions of fans since her recent appearance on “Little Big Shots,”when famous a cappella group Pentatonix joined her in singing a rousing rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.â€

But what many fans don’t realize is that the little girl was diagnosed at an early age with mild autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. According to her teachers, Kaylee rarely spoke, much less sang, until just recently.

But that all changed last year, not long before she shot to viral fame with a Christmas-themed remake of “Hallelujah”with her choir at Killard House Special School in Northern Ireland.

She’s shy but “when she sings, it sort of takes over and she doesn’t think about anything else,”said her music teacher, Lloyd Scates. “And since she started singing more … in school, she’s started to take part in more and more things in school. It’s quite spectacular.â€

Her powerful voice rang true again on March 25, when she appeared on NBC’s “Little Big Shots,”accompanied by her beloved music teacher for moral support, and the Grammy Award-winning, Arlington, Texas-based Pentatonix as backup.

Scott Hoying, one of the band members, said once the group heard her story, they “knew we wanted to sing with her.â€

“Hallelujah”is one of our favorite songs to sing, and the second she started singing, it just brought tears to all our eyes. She is a truly special person and a special talent.
