When RJ Peete was diagnosed with Autism at the age of three, doctors didn’t have an encouraging prediction for his parents. They told his mother Holly that the boy wouldn’t amount to much, and would likely be housebound for the rest of his life. RJ wasn’t expected to communicate, have friends, participate in school or even speak unprompted.
The now 18 year old has not only proved the doctors wrong, but achieved a level of confidence and success that few would ever predict a kid on the Autism spectrum could achieve.
“To all the kids with autism out there, you can do anything you want to.â€
RJ was invited to participate in a magazine concept fronted by celebrity photographer Andrew Macpherson. Macpherson collaborated with fashion industry veteran and modeling agent Omar Albertto and gave RJ the chance for a professional photo shoot.
RJ blew their expectations out of the water. According to Mcpherson, RJ was “incredibly self aware” during the shoot in a way that rivaled top models around the world.
“You think you know your kid and his limitations, then BAM! He just surprises you,”said Holly. “One of the most gratifying things about being a mom is when your kids exceed your expectations.â€
