Teenagers don’t need a date to have a great prom experience. That said, it is nice to have a matching partner to take pictures with.
One 17-year-old couldn’t wait to show off her gorgeous dress and custom pink and purple cape at the prom, date or not. Kaylah Bell is a high school student from Lancaster, California, who recently went to the dance with a group of her friends. But little did she know her grandpa had something special planned for her big night.

Kaylah and her classmates met up beforehand to get ready and take photos together before heading out. That’s when her grandpa, Alvin Hackett, walked out, wearing a color-coordinated outfit to go with her dress. He wanted Kaylah to have the perfect pictures, so he made it happen.

Alvin even bought his granddaughter a rose corsage and a matching boutonniere for himself. Kaylah was stunned and delighted.
“My friends thought it was so adorable, because they knew how hard it was for me to find a date, and they know how much I love my grandpa,” she later said. “Everyone was taking pictures of us, I think it made his day.”

The teen was so touched by the gesture that she had to share it with her followers on Twitter. She uploaded her adorable prom photos with the caption, “My papa knew I didn’t have a date to my prom so he matched me!”

The post soon went viral, with thousands liking, retweeting, and commenting to commend Alvin for doing such a sweet thing. He didn’t actually go to the prom with Kaylah, as there’s an age limit, but he did make an already special night even better.
“My papa matching was truly a blessing to me, it makes me emotional to think about it because we are super close,” Kaylah added. “I really just felt blessed that I was able to create this memory with him.

Way to show your granddaughter you care, Alvin! Something tells us if Kaylah had to choose between having a date and sharing this experience with her grandpa, she’d have gone with the latter anyway.
