For 15 years The Aspinall Foundation has been reintroducing captive gorillas back into the wild, from Howletts Wild Animal Park in England to their millions of acres in West Africa.
Damien Aspinal is one of the quintessential parts of the operation, and his connection to the animals in undeniable. Two gorillas in particular shared a strong bond with the kind man.
But to stay true to the foundation’s mission, they had to be released into the wild.
That was over 12 years ago… which is the last time when Damien’s daughter, Tansy, saw them. And she shared a very special connection as well (at the time she was only 10-years-old!).
Desiring to be reunited with their friends, the Aspinals set out to find the gorillas. After long searching, they finally found their friends hanging alongside a river. It was a miracle they spotted them!
The crew nervously approached, but more than anything they were excited for the reunion. And what happened next was an absolute surprise that couldn’t have been a happier occasion!
