“You don’t know what it’s like to be 100-plus. I’ve found out, and I like it!” He said at a recent party in his honor.
Beryl Dillman May Look Old, But His Mind Remains Sharp
“As long as I’ve got my good mind, I can meet people,” Beryl Dillman told OPB.
He said his biggest secret is watching what he eats and drinks. Beryl never drank alcohol and likes to maintain a healthy diet.
Beryl’s 72-year-old daughter, Ruth Sturges, visits her father often and finds herself inspired by the way he looks at every day. Beryl had two daughters, who gave him six grandchildren, and now 19 great-grandchildren.
“He’s always had such a positive attitude and a cheerful disposition,” she said. “He’s always been a problem solver. So if there’s a stumbling block or barrier, he’s always looking for a way to fix it, not complain about it.”
Many of Beryl Dillman’s family members traveled a long distance to be with him for his 108th birthday. But they wouldn’t change a thing.
“It was worth the 11 hours to just even get to spend a couple hours with him,” grandson James Pence said. “He was there to provide emotional and financial support through college and through having kids; it’s been a lifelong blessing.”
Beryl said he’s found a lot of good with getting older and the life his built in 108 years. May this be the best year yet.
