Father Can’t Help But Break Down When Son Asks Him To Be His Best Man.

A wedding is one of the most memorable and important days of someone’s life. So choosing the people who stand beside them as they repeat their vows at the altar is an emotional and important decision. Being asked is an honor that proves how much you mean to a person. But for one father, the honor of being his son’s best man felt greater than he could have imagined.

Traditionally, a man asks a friend, sibling, cousin, or sometimes an uncle to be their best man. It’s uncommon for a father to take that role. But for a newly engaged Mitch Koehler, there was no one better for the job than his dad.

So after he popped the question to his soon-to-be-wife, he popped another question to his dad. He recorded the special moment and posted it to his YouTube page.

“I’ve known for a few years my dad would be my best man,” he wrote under the video. “When I was younger I asked him about who was in his wedding and he said ‘if I could’ve changed anything I would have made my dad best man.’ That stuck with me since then and I knew I wouldn’t want to have that regret later in life,” he wrote.

Man’s Father Burst Into Tears When He Realizes What is Happening

To his father to be his best man, Mitch had a 6-pack wooden beer holder made that read, “I must ask you a question,” on one side. On the other side, it read, “Will you be my best man?”

When his dad read the question, he immediately broke down in tears. And he and Mitch went in for a long embrace.

“My dad and I are super close and he really is my best friend,” Mitch continued. “So this week he turned 55 and I knew exactly how I wanted to ask him… My dad being a very emotional man and not afraid to show his colors meant we knew we had to record his incredible reaction.”

While Mitch’s dad didn’t say, “yes” in the video, we think it’s safe to assume he accepted the job.
