A shrewd observer in Pennsylvania recently caught some magical footage of an albino deer! Often, we tend to see white-tailed deer in the United States. As their name suggests, these animals are characterized by their white tails. However, the creature wandering through Westmoreland County was white all over, giving them an almost ghostly appearance! UPI tells us that the lucky photographer who caught this natural rarity did not reveal their own identity.
According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, the much more common white-tailed deer are “reddish brown” or “grayish brown,” depending on the time of year. They have lighter markings on their faces, stomaches, and, of course, tails, which do not change color seasonally. While these beautiful creatures are all over the place in North America, albino deer are “exceptionally rare.” Other unusual color variations in these animals include melanistic (dark) and calico (only partly white).
It’s incredible to think of how many unique animals are roaming the planet as we speak. Here’s another type of deer with an unmistakable appearance. Muntjac deer are seen in Southern Asia, and we think they’re pretty darn cute!
