Horses are big, fearless animals that aren’t afraid of anything — until they are. When Nicki Koziarz’s herd approached her with fear in their stance, she knew something was amiss. The horses were alerting her to a potentially life-threatening situation in the pasture. Not sure if the horses were being overly dramatic, Nicki walked out to investigate.

Turns out that the horses were indeed being overly dramatic. The huge threat that scared a herd of big, fearless horses was a partially deflated Mylar balloon. Very scary!
The horses watched intently as Nicki approached the scary, shiny thing in the pasture. They watch her pick it up, probably thinking she was crazy. Examining it, Nicki determines that it is perfectly harmful. But then it crinkles. The herd gets spooked and takes off running away from the danger. Sorry, Mom! They didn’t even bother looking back to see if Nicki was OK.
Nicki posted the uncut version, without a sound overlay. You can see the exact moment the horses decided that the entire situation was unsafe. They weren’t entirely wrong, balloons of all shapes and sizes can potentially be ingested or become tangled on all types of animals, so we’re glad the horses alerted her to the intruder before it could become a problem!

The family also tends to several Highland cows, a mini horse, pigs, donkeys, dogs, and several chickens. Farm life means a lot of work, but there are also plentiful rewards. Although it’s been a rough year for Nicki, with many losses, she focuses on the bright things in life. A herd of horses being afraid of a Mylar balloon is definitely comical.
