David Bromstad Shares Update About His Future at HGTV

David Bromstad

David Bromstad has been a staple on HGTV since winning the debut season of HGTV Design Star in 2006. He’s hosted a variety of shows since 2006, and fans have watched him grow both professionally and personally. He’s been open about his struggles with substance abuse, and fans stayed by his side and cheered him on. In December 2025, HGTV aired the special My Lottery Dream Home: David’s Happy Ending, which highlighted his massive home renovation. David Bromstad poured every bit of himself into the project, leaving him feeling a bit overwhelmed. He shared more about his feelings in a recent interview with Barron Designs.

“It’s been so long since I’ve done any sort of design in front of America, right?” he said. “And I’m an artist, you know? I love my job with Lottery, but I am a creative through and through. So it was really nice to be able to flex my muscles a little bit.”

David Bromstad Opened Up About His Future at HGTV

David Bromstad explained that he took a hiatus from HGTV to take care of his own mental health, which he desperately needed to do. At the same time, he found healing in renovating his dream home.

“[After] working on my mental health, I was like, ‘I have nothing to prove to anybody but myself,’” he told Barron Design. “So, my design is a sneak peek into me as a human. Like, I’m unique. I’m different. I’m relatable, but also, like, completely strange, in the most weird and wonderful way, you know? And that’s my house!”

But David Bromstad doesn’t seem himself doing another HGTV renovation project. He hopes to stay in his dream home forever, so it’s unlikely fans will get that kind of show again. He does plan to continue helping others find their dream homes, so we’ll still have David in our homes when we binge HGTV.
