Cops Lend A Helping Flipper To Unlikely Culprit Found Wandering In Traffic.

A seal stuck in traffic? Well, that’s certainly something you don’t see everyday!

It’s not unusual to see harbor seals lounging on the rocks and beaches of Long Island, but Southampton, New York drivers were not expecting to see one in the middle of the road! Authorities say the baby seal must have been chasing fish up the Peconic River when it wandered into a park to rest. From the park, the seal made its way towards a local hotel before ending up in the middle of a traffic circle.

The poor little fella was picked up by local police and transferred to a rehabilitation center in Riverhead. Rescue program director Maxine Montello said “The animal is in good condition. We just think he wandered a little too far from the beach. Hopefully we’ll be able to get him back to the beach as soon as possible.”

Apparently spring is “seal season,” so beach-goers should expect to share the beaches with their seal friends! Who knew runaway seals were this common on Long Island? Road trip!
