“This is what the first day of school looks like in our community,” wrote the woman over the clip. “A parade leads our kids to school.”

Heading the back-to-school parade were four musicians playing a variety of instruments. Both the banjo and tuba players were elderly men. Isn’t it sweet how so many different generations within the same community came together to celebrate local students?

Commenters absolutely loved the way that this mom’s neighborhood stepped up to make returning to the classroom a more pleasant experience. A few users joked that the video made them want to move to Oak Park!

“What a memory for these children,” one person wrote. “And the adults too.”

Another said, “Brb moving to Oak Park Illinois.”

Neighborhood events like this parade are such a sweet way to get students excited about going back to school. However, there are also plenty of ways for parents to make the first day of school a special occasion for their kids. For example, this mom takes her children out for “practice donuts.” This adorable tradition involves waking up early and getting ready for school the day before it starts. After this practice run, Mom takes her little ones out for donuts.

Back-to-school can be a stressful time for students, so it’s wonderful to see parents and community members finding ways to make it enjoyable!
