When someone turns 18 years old, the freedom of adulthood is finally within their reach. This is when many young people move out of their parents’ home for the first time, after all. Everyone knows that this transitional time of life can be emotional for the parents, but the same can be said for their kids. Sure, there’s excitement there. But entering this new chapter can be bittersweet, especially when your mom decides to play some home videos before you leave.

Home Video Reveals the Heartfelt Song This Dad Created for His Then Newborn Daughter

Not a single word was sung in this song, and yet, Dad was able to say so much about how he feels. Somehow, he managed to capture such a hopeful yet bittersweet feeling. A commenter on Caroline’s video describes it perfectly: “There’s such a hopeful yet melancholy feel to this, like he knows you’re gonna grow up, you’re not gonna be young forever, but he’s glad to have the time he does now.”

Finding that video was no doubt a bittersweet moment for all three of them. One thing they can find comfort in, however, is just how much this song will be there for them in countless other big life moments.

“He should play this at your wedding,” someone suggested in the comments, prompting someone else to reply, “Omg father-daughter dance.”
