In 2024, Chick-fil-A announced it would add pea starch to its waffle fries recipe to keep them crispier longer. This upset many waffle fry enthusiasts, who insisted it ruined Chick-fil-A’s signature waffle fries. But it seems the company quietly took the waffle fry recipe back to its roots. “Thank you, Chick-fil-A, for sharing with us that guests with a pea allergy can now enjoy Waffle Potato Fries. Serving the same great-tasting fries, now with no pea starch, is so meaningful to our food allergy community,” a post reads. “Chick-fil-A cooks its Waffle Potato Fries in canola oil. The company also uses refined peanut oil, so guests should make choices that feel safest for them based on their individual food allergies.”

Chick-fil-A Confirmed the Waffle Fries Recipe Change

Well, sort of. On the company website, Chick-fil-A confirmed it does not use pea starch in its waffle fries. This news came as a welcome surprise to many Chick-fil-A fans.

“Great news! When will this take place? How soon can we try them out? My daughter had to stop eating them because she had an anaphylactic reaction when they changed to the pea starch and was never able to eat it again after her reaction,” a fan shared.

“This is good news. We didn’t eat there often, but we stopped completely after they added the pea starch to their fries. My son will be happy,” another mom agreed.

Of course, Chick-fil-A is not completely allergen-free, so it’s important for those with food allergies to check the ingredients closely. For those who didn’t like the pea starch in their waffle fries, this is a welcome change. We might just need to grab some Chick-fil-A tonight for research purposes.
