James Williams had a challenging walk-in appointment one morning when his new client, Mason, became scared of his scissors. Mason was recently diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ADS) and was unwilling at first to have his hair trimmed.
“He wouldn’t allow me to go near on of his ears, and would run away if he wasn’t up to it.” Williams wrote on facebook.
Over the course of a month, Willaims tried 20 different ways to cut the boy’s hair until this beautiful moment was captured by a customer.
The kind-hearted barber commented on the experience below.
“the extremes you need to achieve when cutting hair is amazing, even when it means litereally getting down to a child’s level haha 🙂 Over last few month I have been attempting to find different ways to cut Mason’s hair. He wouldn’t even allow me to go near one of his ears and would run away if he wasn’t up to it. Today I finally achieved it when we both laid on the floor in silence & he allowed me to give him his first proper haircut. What gave the finishing touch I asked for a high 5, he hugged me ✂”

Willaims finally calmed Mason’s fear by laying on the floor with him in silence while the little guy played on his phone.
Turns out that Mason is not the only kid Williams has helped overcome their fear. The comments below his facebook post are absolutely heartwarming.
Williams – or Jim The Trim as his customers call him- was blown away by the response he received for his simple act of kindness. He’s glad this special moment will help raise awareness for ADS and the kids that deal with it every day.
