Clumsy Baby Elephant Tries To Chase Birds & Ends Up Face-Planting!

Let’s face it, baby animals of any species are adorable, but they’re some of the biggest klutzes you’ll ever see.

It takes some time to develop the grace and poise of their older counterparts, and learning to walk is kind of key. That’s as true for humans as it is for our four-legged friends, like kittens, puppies and calves.

The calf in this case is a baby elephant named Chindi, who lives at the Borås Djurpark zoo in Borås, Sweden. A staff member, Jonas Svensson, happened to be there filming one day last summer when young Chindi got a little too big for her britches.

Chindi spots a flock of guineafowl wandering nearby and decides to pass the time with a harmless little game of chase. Except the birds don’t see it that way. They scatter, fanning out around her to create a sense of confusion. Which totally works. They run around in circles like a little whirlpool, and poor Chindi falls right into their trap, getting dizzier and dizzier with each passing second.

Meanwhile, Mom’s back there in the background, lazily grazing on some grass. She’s probably happy for the diversion so she can eat in peace, but still, she’s watching out of the corner of her eye.

It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt…

Finally, after a few wild circles, Chindi staggers for a split second. But when she goes charging after several of the fast-footed birds, the dizziness finally overcomes her and she does a total faceplant!

That’ll teach her to pick on someone her own size.

Mom apparently had a feeling this little game wouldn’t end well, because she turns a second or two beforehand and sees the whole thing go down. She sort of lumbers over just to check in and make sure everything’s okay, but it appears only Chindi’s pride is hurt. She’ll get those darn birds one of these days.
