Ariana Grande is one of today’s most famous pop stars. Her catchy songs and personal life are often topics of conversation on celebrity news channels and tabloids.

So, when the legendary Italian singer, Andrea Bocelli, announced a duet with the pop star, fans were likely intrigued by the odd pairing.

Grande rose to fame, first as an actress on a Nickelodeon show in 2008. In 2013 she released her first solo album and has been focusing on that aspect of her career since. Though her music is in the pop genre, her voice is not manufactured – it’s beyond strong, often being compared to powerhouse Mariah Carey.

Grande also has a unique ability to impersonate some of pop’s greatest singers including Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, and Whitney Houston. Her impersonations are spot-on and are a demonstration of her vocal ability.

It likely wasn’t Grande’s impersonations that caught Bocelli’s attention (though, it would be a great story if it were), but when he came up with the idea for his album, Cinema, he knew he wanted to work with Grande. He said that he “liked her voice very much” and that he was “happy” to have the opportunity to work with her.

Grande shared in Bocelli’s excitement, and the two recorded a cover of the Italian song, “E Più Ti Penso” from “Once Upon A Time In America,” one of Bocelli’s favorite movies.

Listeners don’t have to speak Italian to understand the beauty in the song. Bocelli’s classically trained voice mixed with Grande’s power and raw talent create a sound that’ll send shivers down your spine.

Honestly, the pair could sing the ABC’s and it would be worthy of a Grammy.

It wasn’t long before “E Più Ti Penso” reached #1 on Billboard’s classical digital song’s list. After their collaboration, Bocelli said that working with her was a “privilege.” That’s a lot coming from a man who’s written multiple complete operas!
