Baby & Dog Team Up For “The Most Chaotic Duet You’ll Hear All Week”

Left image shows a baby crying. Right image shows the family dog who howls whenever the baby cries creating a chaotic duet.

With a new baby in the house, it’s hard to tell if the dog is sympathetic to the baby’s wails or complaining about them. If you are familiar with golden doodles, you know they all have quirky personalities. They are excellent family dogs that are loyal and attuned to their humans. In this family with a new baby, when the baby cries, the dog cries, and the resulting duet is nothing less than chaotic.

One of the commenters on a baby-dog duet video mentioned that the dog might be on to something. The baby stops crying when the dog howls. We’re unsure if Beau is stunned that the animal is out-wailing him, confused by it, or perhaps impressed. But in two videos, he stops while the dog howls.

For the dog, it might go either way. He might be amplifying Beau’s crying to make sure Mom and Dad hear him. With a wealth of natural empathy, the dog might be concerned about the baby. This earlier video is even more pitiful.

It isn’t just Beau’s crying that sets Clifford off. While Sara watched one of Beau’s cousins before he was born, Clifford also howled when she cried. The ASPCA offers tips for acclimating a pet to a new baby. When an infant enters the home, dogs may be over-stimulated by the new sights, sounds, and smells. For Clifford, it could be a combination.

If Beau’s crying bothers Clifford’s sensitive ears, the family should limit their time together. This can be simple, like moving the dog to another room when Beau is more likely to cry. These can include periods before feedings, times when naptime or bedtime is approaching, or when Beau might not feel well.
