Dogs have been man’s best friend as far back as we can reckon. Ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks all kept dogs in the house and on the battlefield. Scientists hypothesize the canine-human connection has been running strong since ancient times when a group of hunter-gatherers came into contact with a pack of wolves more interested in back scratches than dinnertime.
However they became our furry friends, I’m sure glad they did.
Instagram user Chris Sontag-Ratti lost his best friend two years ago. The Boxer mix, named Everything, was was literally everything to Ratti, and losing her was the hardest thing he’d ever been through. In her memory, Ratti decided to buy 100 tennis balls dedicated to Everything and what she meant to him.
Social media’s response has been overwhelming. Ratti now has hundreds of emails offering encouragement, memories and requests from all over the world for one of those wonderful tennis balls.
Two years ago, when Ratti knew the end was near for his Everything, the two went to her favorite spot on the beach to make a lasting memory.
When he first posted his mission on Instagram, Ratti wondered how he’d get rid of 100 tennis balls, now he’s struggling to keep up with the flood of requests… but he doesn’t mind.
“I was planning on spending my entire paycheck this week on shipping but looks like I’ll have to use next week’s check too. I don’t mind one bit either. I would spend my last dollar if it helped keep the memory of my Everything alive.”
