This dino-esque, slimy creature had to be on this awesome list. Although they’re all but extinct nowadays – mostly due to pollution – when they are seen it’s usually in mountain streams and lakes.

While normal salamanders measure between 10-20 cm long, this prehistoric looker can grow up to 180 cm (5′ 11″) in length… which equals out to be up to 66 lbs!

A somewhat disgusting yet interesting bonus fact: another reason for their minuscule population is because the Chinese thought them to be a delicacy, so they were hunter vigorously.
