When a young boy was watching some masons lay concrete, the workers noticed. Seeing his curiosity, they stopped working and invited the boy over. Like the heroes they are, they explain what they are doing and then let the boy try it. Watching these men, who were likely on a deadline, take the time to interact with a young worker boy is heartwarming.

You can see the one man offering tips as the boy worked. Adults teaching children is how we prepare the next generation. These caring workers may instill a lifelong love of masonry in this boy. Or his small taste of the job might send him in another direction. While we may never know how our actions affect the future of any individual, it is still important to try.
We often zoom through life without paying much attention to children. Just because they are little doesn’t mean we should treat them as “little things.” One airline worker noticed a small boy in an airplane window signaling “Rock, Paper, Scissors.” The baggage worker played the game with the little passenger for a few moments.
A waste management employee noticed a toddler’s love for trucks of every kind. The two developed a friendship, with the employee honking and stopping to visit with the boy weekly. Then, on a special day, the sanitation worker arranged a parade of trucks for the small boy. The company gave the boy a worker vest and other items to celebrate his love of trucks.
Like the workers who showed the boy what they were doing, we should all take time to be children’s heroes. Help them learn and grow. They depend on us to teach them how to survive and thrive.
