John Travolta showed up at the 79th Annual Cannes Film Festival with his daughter, Ella Blue. That in and of itself is not unusual, but his appearance threw some people off. John’s obviously changed quite a bit since his breakthrough role as Vinnie Barbarino in Welcome Back, Kotter. Back then, he had a head full of luscious locks, some polyester pants, and a jean jacket. John has adjusted his style for decades to match the times, but a recent appearance had some people perplexed. John Travolta wore black and white and a beret at Cannes, turning many heads. On a recent appearance on Today, John Travolta explained his new look to Willie Geist.

“I have over 50 years of me at events and happenings, and I can’t tell the difference with what I wore or look,” John said. “‘What year is that? What movie is that?’ And then I said, ‘You know what, I’m making a directorial debut.’”
John Travolta’s New Look is a Nod to Old-Time Directors
John Travolta said he looked up directors and saw a lot of berets, which he felt was an important part of his new look.
‘Well, I’m not an actor this time, I’m a director.’ Show up like a director,” he recalled. “So I did that, and that’s really the simplicity of it.”
John Travolta fans love his new look and the explanation.
“He always looks great plus he has such a beautiful charisma .. and I have to add He is such a great dad !!!” A fan wrote.
“He’s ABSOLUTELY HANDSOME and Loving and happy with his Gorgeous Daughter,” another person added.
According to this fan, John doesn’t have to explain himself. “Good guy, history of directors wearing hats, you deserve this.”
We think his new look is fun. You only live once, might as well enjoy it.
