Willie Nelson Brings Out Kermit The Frog For Wholesome Duet

Willie Nelson sits on stage with a guitar in hand. Across from him is Kermit the Frog. They're singing together.

After decades in the industry, it’s safe to say that Willie Nelson has had an unforgettable career. Best of all, at 90 years old, he’s still not done. You’ll still find the country singer performing on stage, often with fellow famous folks. Still, his duet at the Luck Reunion festival in Texas has been a long time coming! Over 20 years after releasing his own version of Rainbow Connection, Willie Nelson and Kermit performed the song together.

If you weren’t aware, this song comes from The Muppet Movie (1979). In it, we see Jim Henson perform as Kermit. This song became particularly popular at the time, landing at 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It even earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song! Still, Nelson wouldn’t put his own spin on the song for years after.

In fact, Nelson’s own daughter, Amy, is the one who insisted he record the song. That’s why, in 2001, Rainbow Connection earned a spot on his album with the very same name. It’s no wonder, then, that after all these years folks are so excited to these two icons join forces on stage.

Willie Nelson and Kermit the Frog Duet Leaves Fans in Tears

“The way the crowd is silently listening is beautiful,” one person notes in a short clip of their performance.

“This is my roman empire,” another person shares, “Like why is this making me cry.”
