Who’s A Good Police Dog? Cheeseburger The K9 Retires After 8 Yrs Of Service.

Patrol dog Cheeseburger is celebrating his retirement from service.

Lawrence Kansas Police Department’s resident good boy is heading into his well-deserved retirement.

Cheeseburger, also known as CB, is a 10-year-old Shepard who has been in service for eight years. Although his main specialty as a patrol dog is de-escalation, he’s also been trained in other areas, like apprehending criminals, protecting his handler, and detecting narcotics, according to KMBC.

In addition to working in Lawrence, the dog has also lent his talents to Kansas police departments in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas City, KHP, Jefferson County, and more.

Corporal Matt Weidl, CB’s handler, announced the canine’s retirement.

On Thursday, Cheeseburger’s coworkers threw him a retirement party to congratulate him at the end of his career. WDAF tells us that he’s looking forward to enjoying some rest and relaxation at the home of Patrol Sgt. Ivener. Cheeseburger will be moving in with the family and their dog, Monty.

After that, the Lawrence Police Department commemorated Cheeseburger’s retirement on Facebook with photos from the party.

“Cheeseburger is officially off-duty for good!” reads the caption. “Following his retirement today, Corporal Weidl passed Cheeseburger off to his new family, the Ivener’s. The kids have promised lots of good boy snoot boops for CB as he lounges around the house for the rest of his days!”

In a second post, the department added that “Cheeseburger is certainly well positioned to get plenty of treats, toys, and restful trots in his well-earned golden years.” They also wrote a heartfelt thank-you to the canine for his years of hard work.

Meanwhile, community members commented on Cheeseburger’s retirement posts to thank the pooch and wish him a happy retirement at his new home.
