Asking for help doesn’t come naturally to many of us, but beautiful things can happen when we show vulnerability to others.
On New Year’s Eve, Rosario Lopez made sure everything was perfect for her son Jaydenn’s 9th birthday party. She put up decorations, bought a fancy cake, and sent out invitations to his friends and family in early December. But on the big night, the party had everything except guests.
“He teared up a little saying I guess I’m going to have to get used to this,” Rosario recalled. “Obviously as a mom it breaks your heart. You try to do what you can for them; run that extra mile. So I went on Facebook and posted about what happened.”
Hoping to get some “Happy Birthday” messages to show Jaydenn, Rosario shared a photo of her son sitting alone with his cake on Facebook.
“Sorry to post here but as a mom I have to run the extra mile and I’m hoping this group can help me out by wishing my son Jaydenn a Happy Birthday,” she wrote. “We invited family but no one showed up and it breaks my heart. I get that it’s New Years Eve and most have something going on but doesn’t hurt to call/text to show this boy some love.”
The post received over 700 comments, and before she knew it, total strangers in their West Valley, Utah community stepped up to show Jaydenn lots of love! Many people reached out to Rosario to ask for their address so they could drop off gifts, even though the weather outside was bad that day.
Over the weekend, Jaydenn received toys, clothes, food, and even cash donations via Venmo. Some people even sent DoorDash deliveries to the family to help them celebrate his special day. Rosario could not believe the response, but her heart brimmed with gratitude.
“To be honest, I cried,” she admitted. “I wasn’t expecting that at all. There are good people out there,” Jaydenn’s mother said. “I just can’t say how grateful I am; truly we are so grateful from the bottom of our hearts.”
People can be so kind sometimes, can’t they? Many people are just looking for ways to help others, so don’t hesitate to ask for help! It’s a good lesson for us all.
