When a huge company cancelled a significant order from a local pie shop at the last minute, the consequences for the small business were devastating. Tesla initially reached out to beloved San Jose establishment The Giving Pies with a request for 2,000 mini pies. According to ABC7 News Bay Area, they quickly increased this order to 4,000. It wasn’t until after the small shop had purchased the ingredients that Tesla decided to back out.

Voahangy Rasetarinera, the owner of The Giving Pies, was heartbroken when she received the news. Not only had she spent $2,000 preparing to bake mini pies for Tesla, but she’d also been unable to take on other orders during that time. However, that’s when the San Jose community surprised her with an outpouring of support.
When locals found out that Tesla had cancelled their order with the small pie shop, they wanted to make up for lost business. It wasn’t long before Voahangy had more customers than she knew what to do with! Even San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan was there to support The Giving Pies.
“I was really overjoyed to get here and see a line out the door into the parking lot, there’s a ton of community support,” he told ABC7 News Bay Area, adding, “This is what San Jose is all about.”
Meanwhile, Voahangy tells NBC Bay Area that Tesla has since reimbursed her pie shop for the order they cancelled. They also offered her another catering job, which she declined. The Giving Pies was already overwhelmed with business from the San Jose community!
It’s so wonderful to see locals supporting the small businesses in their area. We’re so glad that this pie shop was able to bounce back from their cancelled order!
