For many of us living in the United States, it’s tornado season. The average person will do just about anything they can to avoid these deadly twisters, but that’s not the case for everyone. Storm chasers (professionals and hobbyists alike) are surprisingly fearless in the face of these storms. Because of people like them, we have shocking footage of what it’s like to witness them up close. And, in some cases, these storm chasers are able to save lives.

Recently, a tornado made its way through Arkansas. When one resident spotted the tornado nearly in his backyard, he didn’t take cover. Instead, he took out his phone to capture the moment. At the start of his video, the tornado is fairly thin. But over the course of two minutes, it grows to a breathtakingly large size. See for yourself in the harrowing video below.

“I know y’all are probably used to these but you are awfully calm for how CLOSE that is,” someone in the comments shares, another person adding, “Wow, he even walked around his shed to continue the footage! Nerves of steel!”
Fearless Arkansas Resident Stands in His Backyard and Captures a Tornado Transform in Under Two Minutes
The tornado is scary enough when it’s small. But by the end of the video, it’s hard to imagine how anyone can get themselves to continue to record. I know I’d be running back into the house ASAP! (Well, actually, I never would have been recording it in the first place…)
As others have said, living in “tornado valley” will teach you a thing or two about twisters. For example, people are saying that if it seems a tornado isn’t moving, that means it’s coming directly towards you. With that in mind, it seems that’s part of the reason this fearless man was confident that him and his home were safe. Still, that’s no guarantee, so take this as friendly reminder to use caution during dangerous storms like these!
