Walmart Employee’s Final Sign-Off After 10 Yrs Of Employment Goes Viral

Walmart employee's final sign off goes viral

A former Walmart employee is warming hearts and going viral after giving her store a bittersweet official sign-off.

Until November 16, Gail Lewis had been happily employed at an Illinois superstore location for a decade. During that time, she formed cherished memories and touching bonds with her co-workers and had the kind of experience we all hope to have in a career. So it was gut-wrenching for Gail when it came time for her to say goodbye.

Gail decided to close out her final day at Walmart with a short, simple announcement over the store’s PA system, and it caught the attention of millions.

“Attention Walmart, this is Gail Lewis,” she said somberly. “10-year associate Morris, Illinois 8-4-4, signing out, good night.”

A friend captured the sweet message on video, which Gail posted on her TikTok page, along with a brief explanation of why her Walmart “family” was so important to her.

“So today was an end of an era for me,” she said. “What you just saw was me signing out for the last time at my Walmart that I have worked at for 10 years.”

“It’s a happy sad because I’m gonna be going to a better job. And those people became like family,” she continued through tears. “I’ve been through a lot with them. They watched my back. I watched theirs. They helped me out. I helped them out.”

“We even went through a… pandemic together,” she shared. “It just hurts, but it’s a happy sad because where I’m going. I’m gonna be better off where I’m at, that’s all.”

Gail has yet to share her new employer. But there’s no doubt she will mean as much to her current colleagues and managers as she did to her former crew.

“I am grateful to Gail for her service at the Morris, IL store. And she will be greatly missed,” her former boss, Carrie Moses, said in a statement. “I wish her all the best on her future opportunities.”
