Music Therapist Gives Mic To Boy With Rare Disease, Sing Sweetest Duet.

When Van Bernard was only 10-years-old, he was diagnosed with a rare form of Spinal Muscular Atrophy, an incurable and eventually fatal disease. The little guy was in a power wheelchair before he took his first steps and has spent large chunks of time in the hospital.

Despite his condition, Van Bernard is the happiest little kid. He’s notorious for spreading smiles and positivity wherever he goes. Whether in the hospital or with his many friends, Van Bernard’s goal never falters in his mission to show the world how wonderful life can be even when it seems so full of trials.

With all of that in mind, watching the video below is even more beautiful than it seems on the surface.

Van and his music therapy teacher made an appearance at a benefit concert for the Walk for Muscular Dystrophy in Halifax in 2013 that melted hearts all over the world.

The talented duo decided to cover one of the most popular modern day folk songs we could name, ‘Ho Hey’ by the Lumineers. Watching Van sing his heart out and have so much fun is just beautiful to see.
