Most UPS drivers keep dog biscuits in their trucks for the random dog or two on their routes. How do you prepare for a pair of random peacocks? No wonder the poor man lost his train of thought. That is not a normal urban sight. It isn’t like his route is in the country, where he encounters odd animals every day, like these fainting goats.
J.R.’s public service announcement (PSA) was very pertinent. He was informing people about ordering and shipping candles via UPS during the summer months. The trucks get hot, and many of them melt, leaking out of their packaging. If that happens, the UPS driver sends them back to the originator. It was in the middle of this PSA that he noticed the peacocks and stopped talking.
One of the peacocks was in full display, a behavior typically associated with mating. The second peacock’s tail was at rest. He started to finish his PSA, but then stopped and said, “I forgot what I was talking about.”
The sight of the peacocks on his route, right in the middle of his PSA recording, threw J.R. off. The peacocks stopped him in mid-thought. His delivery of PSAs is typically matter-of-fact, short, and concise. He selects his topic and delivers his message succinctly. But not this time.
