In the human world, we often say, “It takes a village,” when it comes to rearing children. Occasionally, this happens naturally in the animal world, and it creates some unusual animal pairings. At The Good Place Farm, a male duck thinks he is a goat. Now, the goat duck helps Winifred Sanderson raise all of her kids.

The duck has declared himself a foster dad, and he waits patiently outside the maternity ward during delivery. Once the goat kids are born, he teaches them how to drink water and how to be goats. He does not limit his caregiving skills to goats. He can often be seen teaching ducklings how to behave like ducks.

When larger animals in the barnyard get aggressive toward his goat kids, he gets very territorial and chases them off. Where Winifred goes, so goes the goat duck. He is almost always at the momma goat’s side or near the goat kids.

Goat Duck has definitely found his calling as a foster dad. He maintains order and discipline in the barnyard and takes care of all the baby animals. In the cow pasture, the cows work to collectively raise the new calf.

At The Good Place Farm, a variety of animals reside, many with creative names. Winifred Sanderson is from the movie Hocus Pocus. The pig’s name is Patsy Swine. Biscuits and Gravy are a cute duck duo who love each other’s company. The “Hookers” are a prison gang of mean geese that frequently rough up the other barnyard denizens.

The farm is on 15 acres south of Atlanta, Georgia, and it is home to over 70 animals. It is a true, self-sufficient homestead. Follow the farm on TikTok or YouTube.
