Acts of kindness from complete and total strangers are so powerful, they are able to not only make the day brighter for those involved, but they can also inspire others around them who are just witnessing the act to take up their own actions of kindness.

One such act of kindness took place at the Lindbergh Center Station in Atlanta, Georgia. The scene of kindness and love impacted Redd Desmond Thomas so much, he decided to share the story so that others could be inspired. Sitting far enough away that he was removed from the scene– but close enough that he could still hear the whole exchange– Thomas posted a picture and the story on his Facebook page. The sweet story has since gone viral.

The young man in the picture was sitting on the bench struggling to tie his tie. When the older woman in the red coat noticed that he was having some trouble she asked, “Do you know how to tie it properly?”
The young man replied, “No ma’am.”
This prompted the woman to turn to her husband sitting on the other side and request that he come over and teach the young man how to tie his tie. Without a moments hesitation, the older man got right up and walked over to the young man to show him how to tie a tie.
He gave him “a step-by-step tutorial,” wrote Thomas. “Then – afterward the elder gentlemen watched the young gentleman repeat the steps and show him that he had it.”
All three people in this story had no idea that their exchange was being watched, but the kindness of the older couple has gone on to inspire many to be kind to others, even if they are strangers sitting in a train station.
