Tina Turner Classic Gets An Unexpected Twist, Leaving “The Voice” Judges In Awe.

A young man named Christian Ellis sits on a stool while he plays and acoustic guitar and sings into a mic on "The Voice Australia."

Competitions like “The Voice Australia” draw in all types of talented folks. Some choose to perform their own original song while others go with a classic by an already popular artist. Christian Ellis decided to go a third route: to sing an iconic song in an entirely new style from the original. More specifically, he chose “Simply The Best” by Tina Turner.

Originally performed in the genre of pop/rock, Christian’s version gave the song a more folk feel. He played his acoustic guitar as he sang and, when he did, the judges were visibly blown away. There was a calmness to his raspy voice which fit perfectly for the new style of the song.

For much of Christian’s performance, the audience was captivated into silence. Before long, though, they began to cheer, prompting the judges to turn around so they might have a chance to coach this bright young star. We can’t wait to see what song he sings next!

Watch Christian pull off an unexpected performance in the video below.
