In the depths of the ocean lurks a creature that’s downright adorable! YouTube channel EVNautilus recently shared footage of a unique deep-sea fish captured on camera 2,800 meters under water. Explorers couldn’t help but comment on the critter’s cute face, especially their smiling mouth! When the fish exposed their underbelly to the camera, one of the team members remarked that they reminded her of a puppy.
EVNautilus explorers recognized the animal as a snailfish, which belongs to the Liparidae family. These little grinners can be found in waters all across the world. According to The Dodo, this particular snailfish was recorded by an underwater drone.
“Some snailfish species have even been found in the Mariana Trench, over 8,000 meters deep!” reads the video description.
