Gardener Discovers Unexpectedly Sneaky Thief Was Scarfing Tomatoes Right Under Their Nose!

Image shows tomato plants that have been ravaged by a thief who steals all the ripe tomatoes.

Alina is an aspiring gardener who was hoping for a great harvest from her tomato plants. Unfortunately, some unknown critter seemed to be helping itself to every single ripe tomato. The culprit was finally caught on camera. It turns out that the tomato thief isn’t some random critter at all. It is Alina’s Australian shepherd, Hope.

And she only picks the red ones! 😂

Those poor, innocent raccoons got a bad rap. Hope is having a blast plucking off every red, ripe tomato on the vine. The tomato thief exhibits absolutely no remorse for her misdeeds, either. The discerning pup is very selective in her harvesting.

We should note that tomatoes are not technically harmful to dogs, as long as they are fully ripe and eaten in moderation. Hope is very good at getting only the ripe ones, but she does not appear to have any interest in exercising moderation.

Tomato plants are in the nightshade family. The leaves and stems can be very harmful to dogs. Toxins solanine and tomatine are in the green parts of the plant. Likewise, ingesting green tomatoes can cause symptoms of tomatine poisoning. However, tomatine poisoning is rare and typically requires a significant amount of tomato consumption to occur. It is not fatal, and most dogs recover with no lingering effects.

Now that the tomato thief is on camera with her mouth full, Alina should move her tomato plants to a less accessible area. Even with a stern talking to, Hope is not likely to give up her pursuit of the forbidden fruit eagerly.

Alina has several internet-famous animals: Zen the Cat, Hope the Australian Shepherd, and Trust the Border Collie. You can follow their antics on Instagram and TikTok.

Please share this shameless, remorseless tomato thief.
