“The Voice:” Kamalei Kawaʻa Narrowly Defeats Gabriel Goes After a Heartfelt Rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”

Gabriel Goes Kamalei Kawaʻa

Gabriel Goes and Kamalei Kawaʻa went head to head during tonight’s episode of The Voice, and their equally flawless performances once again proved how tough this year’s competition has been since the start.

After a brief and beautiful shared harmony, Gabriel came out in full force when he opened a duet of Israel Kamakawiwoʻole’s Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Kamalei took his turn right after and showcased his signature soothing and soulful vocals that originally won over his coach, Chance the Rapper

As the two continued, Reba McEntire, John Legend, Dan + Shay, and Chance smiled from ear to ear and thoroughly enjoyed the entire performance.

Once the two concluded, the coaches raved about both singers and admitted that Chance had an impossible situation on his hands.

“I love you guys, man,” Shay said. “I feel like the energy that you guys brought was amazing.”

Neither Shay nor Dan could decide between the two, so they said they were going to “leave it up to Chance.”

John praised both singers. He loved how Gabriel was so versatile with his voice and he also enjoyed how “inviting” Kamalei’s voice was. He admitted that if the choice was his, Kamalei was his “favorite” but only by “a little bit.”

Reba had similar notes on the two. She loved Gabriel Goes’ energy and Kamalei Kawaʻa’s vibe. Like Dan + Shay, she couldn’t pick a favorite either.

Chance ended up keeping Kamalei on The Voice, but he was sad to let Gabriel go after his strong performance. That means Kamalei will advance to the Knockouts.

Tune in to The Voice tomorrow at 8 PM ET (March 18) to watch round two of the Battles.
