August 3, 2025, marked a big day for the royal family. No, it wasn’t a birthday or a marriage, but a retirement. King Charles and the royal family announced the retirement of their beloved equines. Tyrone, a Ceremonial Carriage Horse, officially retired after more than a decade of service for the royal family. In a sweet Instagram post, the family referred to Tyrone, a Windsor Grey, as a “gentle and dependable giant.” He served much of his time working for Queen Elizabeth during her historical reign.

“After 14 years of noble service with the Royal Mews, we are celebrating Tyrone and wishing him a happy retirement,” the royal family shared on Instagram, announcing Tyrone’s retirement.

The Royal Family Shared A Bit Of Tyrone’s History In His Retirement Announcement

According to the royal family’s post, Tyrone will join his father and sister in retirement.

“Tyrone’s father, Storm, and his sister, Meg, are already enjoying their retirement under the care of The Horse Trust. All three horses were very dear to her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” the post explains.

Royal family enthusiasts shared many well-wishes with Tyrone on his well-deserved retirement.

“The fourth picture with his father and sister is beautiful and touching. Someone should paint it,” a fan suggested.

”How lovely that he is going to live with his father and sister thank you for your service Tyrone! Enjoy your retirement,” a comment reads.

“That was such a lovely post! Great to learn more about the horses,” someone wrote. “Happy retirement, Tyrone.

This person picked up on how special Tyrone’s family has been to the royals.

“His father, his sister, his nephew… it’s interesting the fact that there is also a horses royal family dedicated to serve The Royal Family,” they wrote.

While the royal family will miss Tyrone during his retirement, he will clearly be cared for and loved for the rest of his life.
