“Joey Danger completed his first ElCapitan ascent. Making him the youngest person to climb El Capitan.Six days. Thousands of feet in the air. Violent wind storms, exposure, rationing food and water, exhaustion, laughter, fear… and the kind of adventure most people never experience in an entire lifetime,” The Evermore family shared on Instagram.
Joey Evermore is the Youngest Person to Climb El Capitan
According to his family, Joey Evermore broke the record of the youngest person to climb El Capitan, once held by his brother, Sylvan.
“This was a full rope ascent. He jugged the route himself while remaining safely attached to the wall the entire climb. His older brother Sylvan joined the support team and absolutely crushed it. Carrying loads, managing systems, encouraging Joey, and working nonstop to help make the climb possible. That now makes Sylvan the only kid under ten years old with TWO El Capitan ascents under his belt. Pretty cool, Sylvan,” the captions read. “The Evermore boys are just getting started.”
Congratulations poured in for Joey Evermore’s incredible accomplishment.
“What a huge achievement you did! You must have awesome parents!” Someone wrote.
Others made sure to give a shoutout to Sylvan, too.
“Congratulations, Joey! Sylvan, too, on your second ascent. Both you guys are awesome,” a comment reads.
It’s a moment the family will never forget.
“Kids are capable of far more than most people believe when they are trained, challenged, protected, and invited into real adventure,” the family added on Instagram.
