Sneaky Guide Dog Leads Blind Handler Into His Favorite Store.

Thai is not only a guide dog, he’s a mind reader.

He helps guide 20-year-old Danielle Sykora around campus at Delaware Valley University, and serves as a traveling companion on her weekend trips home to New Jersey. Those trips sometimes include excursions to the local mall, and that’s where Thai puts his mind-reading skills to work.

Last weekend, Thai and Danielle went on an outing to the Montgomery Mall, accompanied by Danielle’s sister, 22-year-old Michele, and their dad. There’s a certain store in the mall, “Cool Dog Gear,”and Thai just knew (wink, wink) that Danielle wanted to go in there.

“The first time it ever happened, my dad was with my sister and he just wandered right in,” said Michele, who wasn’t with them at the time. But she was on this occasion, so as they neared the store, her dad told her to watch and see if he’d do it again.

“So I just wanted to record it to see if it happened, and of course it did,” she said.

Danielle simply couldn’t live without this honorable and loyal dog, but he does have a mind of his own when it comes to getting what he wants. He spends nearly all his time taking her to places she wants to go, and really, what’s the harm in pulling a fast one once in a while?

Sometimes he shows me places that he just likes. He’ll show me Starbucks, because he knows I like to go to Starbucks, and he’ll show me the pet store, because treats are fun.

Michele Tweeted the hilarious evidence of Thai’s crafty maneuvering in the clip below, and it’s been viewed millions of times in the days since. Some viewers have even related their own stories, including some who cleverly guide their handlers to Starbucks (Puppuccinos, yum!) or local parks, and one who even fakes alerts so he can get treats!
