This isn’t the first time we’ve shared a story with you featuring the beautiful music of Les Miserables. We shared this incredible Josh Groban cover of “Bring Him Home” and we told you about a hilarious “On My Own” parody by a lonely college student. Like the latter story, the video below is a Les Mis parody… combined with a back-to-school flash mob!
The video starts out with a typical faculty assembly for West Des Moines Community school district. Someone, presumably the headmaster, is standing on stage in front of a large crowd of educators and school district staff, welcoming them to a new school year. “I know this school year is going to be incredible,” says the speaker, “and it’s almost ready to begin. Just one more day left!”
As musical theatre fans may know, “One Day More” is the grand, ensemble musical number that comes just before intermission in Les Mis; it’s a show-stopper. After the speaker says the words “one more day,” music begins to play and she is interrupted by a singer, appearing through the curtains onstage. His performance is greeted with laughter and applause, but things get especially fun when teachers in the audience stand, one by one, to join in the song!
Not only is this a hilarious surprise, but the lyrics have been re-written to describes the woes of teaching: “One more day all on my own, no more time for preparation,” sings the teacher parodying the tragic character Eponine, “I’ve run out of planning time, soon the students will be here.”
“Will my lessons be a bore?” sing two other teachers, “Please collaborate with me!”
The flash mob only gets more and more brilliant as it grows! Check it out below!
