Managing a classroom can be like trying to juggle five flaming bowling pins while riding a unicycle. Ask any teacher, especially those in the elementary grades. Finding constructive ways to channel excess energy can be challenging. Texas teacher Lex found an interesting way to handle behavior management in her classroom. While unorthodox and slightly “unhinged,” it works.

When her students behave, they get a special treat: watching the class clown have a “WWE Smackdown” moment with his backpack. Classmates cheer and clap as the final tackle is made, and the backpack is pinned for the win.
This method works because it allows the kid with the excess energy to burn some of it off. The other students build community as they cheer and clap. Everyone gets a good laugh. Lex asked other teachers to share their wisdom on what works in their classrooms.
One teacher mentioned her behavior management trick, which involved a mullet and singing. One kid in her class has a mullet and enjoys singing. When the class behaves, he gets to perform for his classmates, who go crazy for him. The one-upmanship had another teacher adding that her singer doesn’t have a mullet, but wears a mullet wig.

This kindergarten teacher lets her students “roast” her on a good day. They excel in creative speaking because one student called her “a dried up piece of Play-Doh at the bottom of the book sack.” That was imaginative and descriptive.

This last one might be controversial, but it worked for a teacher who had run out of all other options.

Whatever behavior management tools a teacher uses in their classroom, if they work, they’re like gold.
