Nashville Airport to Be Renamed in Honor of Dolly Parton

In 2025, a Change.org petition began online to rename Berry Field Nashville International Airport in honor of Dolly Parton. The petition garnered much attention but stalled. After Dolly’s death on August 25, 2026, the petition once again gained momentum. This time, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee got behind the idea.

“It has been incredible to see the outpouring of support from around the world. We are overwhelmed with joy and emotion knowing that we have official support in making this monumental change, celebrating one of the world’s most precious souls,” the petition reads.

The Nashville Airport Will Be Renamed in Dolly Parton’s Honor

On September 11, 202, the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority met and discussed the name change and unanimously approved the idea, per a release.

Today, the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority voted unanimously, 6-0, to begin the process of modifying the airport’s name in honor of Dolly Parton.

While a final name has not yet been determined, we are working closely with the appropriate parties to thoughtfully determine how Dolly Parton’s name and legacy will be incorporated.

This vote represents the first step in a multifaceted process. In the coming months, we anticipate having more definitive plans to share regarding the next steps and implementation.

This fan joked that Dolly Parton would love the airport renamed in her honor. “This is wonderful news. Hopefully you can embrace Dolly’s sense of humor & get the airport code DDD.”
