This New Approach To Encourage Blood Donations Could Be A Game Changer

Sweden cell phone with text thanking blood donation

Could blood donations increase with a gesture as simple as saying thank you? Blodcentralen, a donation service in Stockholm, seems to think so and they may be right.

In a new campaign to get younger generations to donate, Blodcentralen is taking to the power of mobile technology to make a difference. Once a donor’s blood has been used, Blodcentralen sends a text message letting them know they’ve helped save a life. It’s a small gesture, but it means the world to the donors.

Since the program’s aim is to reach younger donors, they are using witty social media and text messages to get their message across. When supply is running low, a past donor may receive a light-hearted threat text saying “We won’t give up until you bleed.

“It’s a great feeling to know you made such a big difference and maybe even saved someone else’s life,”Karolina Blom Wiberg, a spokesperson for Blodcentralen, told The Independent.

While you may never receive a text thanking you for donating, it’s still completely worth it. So, what are you waiting for? Go donate some blood and save a life today.
