Suzanne Somers passed away in October 2023 following a decades-long battle with breast cancer. Her husband of more than 46 years, Alan Hamel, stayed by her side through her illness and mourned her death. Alan, who will turn 90 on June 30, recently sparked dating rumors and finally confirmed he’s dating again. Alan Hamel and Joanna Cassidy, 79, found love, and he’s thrilled. Alan Hamel told People it’s what Suzanne Somers wanted for him.

“When it was clear that Suzanne was not going to recover in the final days of her life on this planet, before she crossed over, she said to me, ‘I don’t want you to mope around after I’m gone,’ “Alan said. “I actually never heard the expression ‘mope around’ before. I said, ‘So you mean I shouldn’t sit at home and feel sorry for myself?’ She said, ‘I want you to live your life. You have a great life. You have a great family. You have great friends. I want you to live your life.'”
Suzanne Somers Worked With Alan Hamel’s New Love
It’s been a while, but Suzanne Somers and Joanna Cassidy starred opposite each other in the 1985 miniseries Hollywood Wives. Alan told People that Suzanne and Joanna got along great.
“Suzanne really liked her a lot, and Suzanne also was a great professional. So the two of them got along great,” he said.
Alan told People his son ran into Joanna and struck up a conversation about a potential love connection. The pair knew of one another, but now, they’re getting a chance to love each other.
Alan Hamel will always love Suzanne Somers, but he’s also enjoying this time of his life.
“I don’t know where the relationship is going,” he adds. “I just know that at this very moment, it’s wonderful, and the reality is that as the foundational material for a relationship. It should go on for a long time being wonderful.”
