South Korea got something of a late start in the televised singing competition arena, launching Superstar K in 2009, when American Idol was already into its eighth season.

But just like its predecessor, Superstar K’s done an amazing job shining the international spotlight on some everyday Joes and Janes. You’d never guess they had such so much talent if you just saw them walking down the street – or anywhere else besides the stage, for that matter. But on stage, people like the contestant in the video below can shine, potentially becoming the next superstar everyone’s been waiting for.

Looks like Psy and BTS need to move over and make a little room, because with this kind of voice, Sarah Lee’s almost certainly headed down the same road to fame and fortune.
But this show is a little different than Idol. Each judge is given a button where they can rank a contestant with a 10 which gives them 10 more seconds to sing. Contestants start with 20 seconds, but if you don’t get enough votes, you get cut off ,and don’t move on to the next stage.

And just as an aside, notice how when they vote, it has none of the theatrical flair of shows like America’s Got Talent or The Voice, where buzzers are slammed and chairs are whirled around as if to emphasize the point? Not on Superstar K. The only sound you hear is a soft little tap, as if it’s a foregone conclusion there’s a star up there, and they’re just going through the motions to make it official.
Watch the whole audition in the clip below, and share if you think Adele and Bob would’ve rated her a 10 as welll!
