Strangers Share The “One Thing” Their Parents Did To Make Their Childhood Magical

A mom and daughter are in a store next to a whole case of donuts. Mom smiles down at her little girl who eats a donut as she sits in the shopping cart seat. A social media comment is edited onto the image and reads: My mom would randomly wake me up late & say “oh my goodness, I think you’re sick today” with a wink 😉 & then we’d go get donuts & have a skip day together. My favorite unexpected treat

When you’re a parent, you get to play a part in countless special memories that are unlike any others. That said, it can be easy to wonder, “Am I doing enough for my kids?” With a baby of her own, Bryann Martines has been asking herself that a lot lately. She wants to do everything she can to make her daughter’s childhood “magical.” This is something Bryann’s own parents were able to do for her.

While Bryann is doing her best, she thought it might be helpful to ask for help. So, she made a social media post prompting others to share what their parents did to make life a little more magical. Luckily for us all, this post blew up! So, without further ado, here are some of the very best magical childhood moments.

1. A joke a day keeps the sadness away!

Comment from 05knelso: I put a joke in my kids lunch box every day & I found out my son has been saving them & laminating them so he can have them forever. 😭

What a beautiful confirmation that this parent did something right.

2. Going away to camp for the first time can be nerve-wracking…

Comment from BreExplainsItAll:The first time I went away to camp I was so nervous. I opened my bag and there was a cassette player and a different tape for each night. It was my mom’s voice reading to me like we did every night.🥹

Luckily for this kid, their mom made sure they weren’t entirely alone.

3. Yearly traditions are the best.

Comment from Madison Carroll: On the first day of school each year, my dad would buy my sisters and I the amount of flowers to represent the grade we were in! Then by senior year, we got a dozen roses🫶🏻
TikTok

That’s especially true when the tradition is as as thoughtful as this one!

4. Who says that skipping school is always wrong?

Comment from moomoogang: My mom would randomly wake me up late & say “oh my goodness, I think you’re sick today” with a wink 😉 & then we’d go get donuts & have a skip day together. My favorite unexpected treat

Mental health days are genuinely so undervalued.

5. Have a fear of the dark? This dad might have the perfect solution.

Comment from Houston: My Dad used to set out on our country deck at night, no flashlights or candles. And we’d “listen to the night sounds” and identify them one by one. He said he didn’t want me to ever fear the dark.
TikTok

This level of thought and care is unreal.

6. Impromptu outing for treats!? Yes, please!

Comment from Rae Wright: Pajama rides! We didn’t have much growing up. But right before bed somedays, my dad would yell out “pajama ride!” And all 5 of us would jump in the car and get icecream/similar and tailgate

Magical childhoods are made up of nights like those.

7. Sometimes, it’s the “little” things in life that mean the most

Comment that reads: My single mom of 6, would line us up for “love time”. Hugs, kisses, words of affirmation. Waiting in line was the same thrill of waiting to get on a rollercoaster

They may not remember exactly what Mom told them, but they certainly remember how she made them feel.

Making sure your little one has a magical childhood can feel like a lot of pressure. Still, it’s helpful to remember that simply caring enough to try at all can make a world of difference. From there, it’s all about keeping your eyes open for the little ways to brighten up your kid’s day. As these stories prove, they’ll never forget it!
