Research is revealing that getting too used to all our stuff is robbing us of joy. New experiences like traveling, outdoor activities, and learning new skills provide far more happiness.

“One of our enemies of happiness is adaptation,”says Dr. Thomas Gilovich, a psychology professor at Cornell University. “We buy things to make us happy, and we succeed, but only for a little while. New things are exciting to us at first, but then we adapt to them.â€
